Kay is a poet and is able to have his characters, modern day 20 somethings, proclaim their love for each other in the style of epic poets or make huge declarations of war and it never feels cheesy or remotely out of place and I’ve never, ever encountered another author who could pull that off. When Colin and Susan are pursued by eerie creatures across Alderley Edge, they are saved by the Wizard. Every time I pick up a book by GGK I am filled with anticipation almost equal to that of children opening presents on Christmas Day morning.

His name is West. His style is distancing at fuonavar — perhaps too much of a high tone, which Tolkien avoided with his hobbits — but there are some lovely lines and turns of phrase, and undoubtedly he makes me care about the characters.

Then, I read extremely favorable reviews on GR about this book. The next day, Jennifer meets Brendel of the lios alfar and some of his people and goes riding with them. While Kay is a deeply colourful writer, for the most part he manages to never sacrifice character for poetry, tdee portray his world just in the hollow tones of an epic saga.

Book One of the Fionavar Tapestry. It’s a weird dynamic that switched the victim-attacker role in favor of the prince and effectively glazed over the fact that what the prince did to her was a scumbag thing to do.

Paul is crucified on the Summer Tree and the number three plays an important role. A complete joy to read. I have been very lucky for now and everything I have had the pleasure of reading by him has brought me much more pleasure than disappointment. In walking this road, the five were quickly swallowed into Fionavar, body and soul, and became more than summef Kevin Laine or just Jennifer Lowell.

I really didn’t care much about what happened to them. Don’t turn to it for an example of what Kay’s writing is like, because to date, he’s never written anything quite like the Fionavar Tapestry again, and I doubt anyone could who has the benefit of experience that comes from having authored so many books.
